Environmental Education

CMNC ’s environmental education programs are designed to enhance classroom curriculum through hands-on discovery and exploration of the natural world. Our programs are designed to promote awareness and appreciation of the environment.

Programs are 90 minutes and feature wildlife education, nature hikes, ecology, environmental games and more!

All programs are correlated to Georgia Performance Standards.

Program Topics:

Reptiles - Get up close and personal with native and exotic reptiles while learning what makes them special.

Birds - Visit our resident birds and learn interesting facts about owls, hawks and vultures.

Backyard Habitat - Find out what animals need to live and what you can do to help wildlife.

Granite Rock Outcroppings - Visit this unique habitat to learn about its special plants and animals.

Pond Ecology - Discover the habitats of a pond community and who lives in them.

Insects - Explore the life cycles and interesting habits of insects.

Forest Education - Learn to identify native trees and plants and read the rings of a tree.

Special Topics - Programs for special topics can be arranged with advance notice. Be sure to book these early to allow us time to develop a quality program for your group.

Fees: ($75 minimum)
CMNC Programs (90 minutes)
$5.00 per student/adult/siblings over 2 years of age
Teachers and Para Pros free.

Note: $75.00 deposit required 3 weeks prior to program date.

Outreach Programs

Let us bring one of our 45 minute Education Trunk programs into your classroom. Topics include Reptiles, Birds, Insects, Wetlands, and Habitat and include exhibits, activities, books, field guides, live animals and more

Outreach Fees:

$150 1st Program (maximum of 30 participants)

Additional classes same day $75 (maximum of 30 participants)

$75.00 Reservation Fee is required 3 weeks prior to program date. Reservation Fee will be applied to balance of program fee due upon arrival at your location.

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received at least two weeks prior to program date to avoid a $75 cancellation fee.

Spring Break Day Camp 2008
April 7-11th
Note: the 2008 SPRING camp has been cancelled due to lack of participation.

Join us as we welcome in the Spring, and learn what plants and animals are doing as the seasons change! Campers will hike, play games, create arts and crafts, and meet exciting animals up close. Spring Break Day Camp is open to all children currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grades.

Summer Nature Day Camp 2008

Cochran Mill Nature Center offers camps each summer
that offer a fun-filled week of educational environmental activities!

Junior Naturalist Day Camp is open to all children who will be entering 1st through 5th grades this fall. Each child will experience a combination of environmental education and outdoor recreation, while exploring topics and activities related to nature and the outdoors. Themes and activities differ each week. Campers enrolled in multiple sessions will have new and exciting experiences each week. Campers are accepted on a first come, first served basis as space is limited.

Camp Cricket – Kindergarten Camp
Join us for PK camp and learn about reptiles, birds, insects, native wildlife of Georgia, gardening, and more! We’ll hike, fish, canoe and have loads of fun! Pre-K Camp is open to all children ages who will be entering kindergarten this fall.

Teen Adventure Camp
Now campers who have outgrown our Nature Day Camp can participate in an exciting Teen Adventure Camp program. Each day campers will leave Cochran Mill Nature Center for wilderness outings including hiking, orienteering, canoeing, and wildlife studies. Campers will learn about native Georgia wildlife and forests through personal exploration. On Thursday night, there will be a camp-out in the nature center field, including a campfire, cookout, and night hike! Teen Adventure Camp is open to students who will be entering 6th through 9th grade this fall.

Each child should bring a LUNCH each day and CMNC will provide an afternoon snack.

Cancellation / Refund Policy:
All cancellations, refunds, or changes must be requested at least 2 weeks before the first day of each session for which you have registered. No refunds will be given less than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the session.
